NERC CIP Bootcamp

As the leader in NERC CIP Education in North America, EnergySec is offering our NERC CIP Bootcamp in Hartford, CT, on September 18-22. This course provides essential foundational knowledge of the NERC CIP ecosystem, as well as in-depth information on every standard and requirement in the latest CIP versions.

The course can also be individually configured to address the areas of interest for each attendee. For those entities or individuals dealing with only low impact systems, Day 1 provides foundational knowledge of the CIP standards and a deep dive into the low impact requirements. Days 1-3 provide foundational knowledge and cover all requirements at all impact levels from CIP-002 through CIP-014, including a look at the current draft versions of CIP-012 and CIP-013. Days 4-5 complete the Bootcamp by addressing process, evidence, and audit requirements.

The full 5-day Bootcamp qualifies for 40 CPE credits with certificates awarded after verification of class attendance.

Registration Options

NERC CIP Bootcamp – Days 1-5 (40 CPEs)

This is the standard option for professionals seeking a full understanding of the NERC CIP standards. This includes all five days of the Bootcamp as outlined below.

Audience: Industry professionals seeking a full knowledge of the NERC CIP standards and associated compliance oversight processes.

NERC CIP Bootcamp – Day 1 (8 CPEs)

Day 1 of the Bootcamp provides foundational knowledge of the CIP standards and a deep dive into the Low Impact requirements. Topics include the history and legal basis of the standards, terminology, policy requirements, asset identification, and the four focus areas for the protection of low impact systems: security awareness, physical security, electronic security, and incident response.

Audience: Anyone with day to day responsibilities that include NERC CIP requirements. Vendors selling products or services to entities subject to the CIP standards.


NERC CIP Bootcamp – Days 1-3 (24 CPEs)

Days 1-3 of the Bootcamp form the course of our flagship course, now approaching 1500 alumni. In addition to the day 1 material discussed above, Days 2-3 present a deep dive into standards CIP-004 through CIP-014, covering every requirement in depth with discussions on compliance approaches, interpretations, and guidance.

Audience: Anyone with day to day responsibilities that include NERC CIP requirements at the high or medium impact level. Vendors selling products or services to entities subject to the CIP standards.


NERC CIP Process, Evidence, and Audit Requirements – Days 4-5 (16 CPEs)

Days 4-5 of the Bootcamp provide entity personnel with an understanding of compliance oversight practices employed by the ERO. This includes a detailed explanation of the audit process from preparation, to execution, to post-audit negotiations. Attendees will obtain an understanding of the NERC Rules of Procedures (RoP), Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Program (CMEP), Inherent Risk Assessments (IRA), Internal Controls Evaluation (ICE), and the audit process as documented in the ERO Auditors Handbook. RSAW and evidence preparation and presentation will also be discussed.

Audience: Compliance, regulatory, legal, technical, and security staff that will participate in formal CIP audits, mock audits, or internal compliance reviews. Others desiring an understanding of oversight processes and methods to ensure compliance.

The Fine Print

Any cancellations received more than one month before the start of the session will be refunded 50% of the tuition of the course registered. Any cancellations that are received less than one month before the start of the session, will not be eligible for a refund. The cancellation must be sent in writing to info@energysec.org or to EnergySec, 8440 SE Sunnybrook Blvd Suite 206, Clackamas OR 97015.

One postponement without a penalty fee is permitted. Any further request for postponement cannot be guaranteed and may result in a forfeiture of the course tuition.


Venue: Courtyard by Marriott - Hartford/Farmington 1583 Southeast Road Farmington, CT 06032 Marriott has a special group rate for attendees of the NERC CIP Training at the Courtyard by Marriott - Hartford/Farmington of 159.00 USD per night. Reservations can be made via the Marriott portal or by calling the Courtyard reservation line at 860-521-7100. Please ensure the reservation is at the correct hotel and address, as there are multiple Courtyard hotels in Hartford. There are a limited amount of rooms available at the group rate, on a first-come, first-served basis. The last day to book your room at the group rate is August 27, 2017. All reservations must be guaranteed with a major credit card. The hotel will not hold any reservations unless they are secured by this method.
